What is Zellige? 
 

?Zellige (or zellij) is a traditional Moroccan tile made from glazed terracotta, hand-chiseled into unique shapes. No two are ever the same.

The clay tile are formed and dried before the glaze is added and the hand-made tiles are fired 2 times to give them extra strength and durability.  These hand-glazed Moroccan clay tiles, are hand-cut using a sharp hammer called a “Menqach” creating an irregular finish. The Zellige tiles are often irregular shades depending on the color of the clay beneath. The technique and skill of the artisans is truly incredible, especially when it comes to designing and organizing the intricate tile pieces.

Zellige's signature lies in its natural variation in color and texture, creating rich, reflective surfaces with character. Popular tones include sage green, ivory, cobalt, blush, and deep teal.
